Things went horribly wrong. It was a real train wreck. We tried to {compensate|address the situation, but it here was like trying to stop a blizzard with a teaspoon. We're still picking up the debris and feeling the impact of this epic fail.

This problem has spiraled out of control. It's a total disaster. We've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to function. At this point, it feels like we're toast. Honestly, I don't know what else to do. This is a train wreck of epic proportions.
That's So Cringe, It's Hilarious (In a Way)
Sometimes you encounter situations so terrible that you can't help but smile. It's like your brain tries to process the sheer magnitude of destruction and just throws its hands up, opting for laughter as a coping mechanism.
But then, you realize that it's not really actually that amusing. It's just plain bad. And the laughter you felt morphs into a wistful, melancholic sound.
After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of utter perplexity. You wonder about the nature of it all. Was this a joke?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?
Tragedy of Epic Proportions
The volcanic eruption struck suddenly, ravaging entire villages in its wake. Buildings collapsed like sandcastles, and the screams that ensued was deafening. Thousands were trapped beneath wreckage, their fate unknown. The magnitude of the disaster was unprecedented, leaving survivors to confront a future forever altered.

Worst Day Ever
It all started with a terrible case of bedhead hair. I couldn't do it to look right. As I was dashing out the door, I trippedover and spilled all over the floor. To make matters worse, I was completely late for work.
I arrived. My {boss|teacher|was absolutely furious. I managed to explain, but it was a hopeless situation.
The rest of the day was just as bad. Everything. I get anything done.
By the time I reached my destination, I was physically and emotionally wiped out. This day, this horrific day will be forever remembered as a day to forget.

It all started out badly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
